Severe Material and Social Deprivation (SMSD) rate

Severe Material and Social Deprivation refers to the proportion/number of people who are unable to afford some items considered by most people to be desirable or even necessary to lead an adequate life. Persons lacking at least seven items out of the 13 material and social deprivation items are considered to be severely materially and socially deprived (SMSD).
