  • Social Protection Expenditure per Capita

The data on expenditure under the various social protection schemes are drawn up according to the ESSPROS (European System of integrated Social Protection Statistics) Manual issued by Eurostat. Generally, the objectives of ESSPROS are to provide a comprehensive, realistic and coherent description of social protection which: (i) covers social benefits and their financing; (ii) is geared towards international comparability; and (iii) is completely harmonised with other statistics, particularly the National Accounts, in its main concepts. Spatial ESSPROS data is showed as per capita. The total benefits expenditure obtained from the SABS database does not match that with the Treasury's Departmental Accounting System (DAS) as the latter includes welfare payments which are excluded from the SABS database. The data source used to compile the beneficiaries data is the System for the Administration of Social Benefits (SABS) database held by the Department of Social Security. Beneficiaries are grouped according to their ID card number. If a person received a particular benefit more than once in a calendar year, the records show one beneficiary. Beneficiaries obtaining more than one benefit under the same function are counted once. Beneficiaries living abroad are not included in the data.
  • Family Children beneficiaries and benefits

The data on expenditure under the various social protection schemes are drawn up according to the ESSPROS (European System of integrated Social Protection Statistics) Manual issued by Eurostat. Generally, the objectives of ESSPROS are to provide a comprehensive, realistic and coherent description of social protection which: (i) covers social benefits and their financing; (ii) is geared towards international comparability; and (iii) is completely harmonised with other statistics, particularly the National Accounts, in its main concepts. The Family/Children function contains the following benefits: Marriage Grant, Maternity Benefit, Maternity Leave Benefit, Re-marriage Grant, Children's Allowance, Foster Care Allowance and Social Assistance for Single Parents. Spatial ESSPROS data is represented per 1000 population. The data source used to compile the beneficiaries data is the System for the Administration of Social Benefits (SABS) database held by the Department of Social Security. Beneficiaries are grouped according to their ID card number. If a person received a particular benefit more than once in a calendar year, the records show one beneficiary. • Fishing Activity Maps at 2-3 Knots for Swordfish

These datasets were manipulated and produced in aggregated maps by showing the intensity of VMS (and not the effort) by a methodology used in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Since most of the vessels are under 12 m and have no VMS, these maps represents only a fraction of the Drifting Long Lines vessels - 7% of the vessels targeting swordfish. For this datasets of vessel trips targeting swordfish, at a speed of 2-3 knots (indicative of hauling) were taken into consideration. This data was funded by of one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.
  • Fishing Activity Maps at 2-3 Knots for Tuna

These datasets were manipulated and produced in aggregated maps by showing the intensity of VMS (and not the effort) by a methodology used in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Since most of the vessels are under 12 m and have no VMS, these maps represents only a fraction of the Drifting Long Lines vessels - 59.1% of the vessels targeting Tuna. For this dataset of tuna 2-3 knots for hauling and speed were taken into consideration. This data was funded by of one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.
  • Fishing Activity Maps at 4-5 Knots for Dolphinfish (Lampuki)

These datasets were manipulated and produced in aggregated maps by showing the intensity of VMS (and not the effort) by a methodology used in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Since most of the vessels are under 12 m and have no VMS, these maps represents only a fraction of the vessels - 24% of the vessels targeting dolphinfish (lampuki). For this datasets of vessel trips targeting dolphinfish, at a speed of 4-5knots (indicative of hauling) was taken into consideration. This data was funded by of one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.
  • Geographical Sub-area in which the Maltese Islands are found

The Geographical Sub-Areas (GSAs) were established under the RES-GFCM/33/2009/2 - Establishment of Geographical Sub-Areas in the GFCM area amending the resolution GFCM/31/2007/2. The dataset only shows the GSA15 which is the GSA in which the Maltese Islands are found. For all the GSAs, one must refer to the legislation mentioned above or the following website: http://www.fao.org/gfcm/data/map-geographical-subareas/en/
  • Geological Map of the Maltese Islands - Bedrock bedding measurements

Data identifying observation locations (shown as points) describing the bedding orientation of bedrock units. The scale of the data is 1:10 000 scale. Coverage is provided for the main Maltese Islands. Bedrock measurements describe the orientation of bedding in terms of dip and dip-azimuth. The data are available in vector format (containing the geometry of each feature linked to a database record describing their attributes) as ESRI shapefiles.
  • Live Births by Locality

Live births resident in Malta includes all babies whose parent(s) is(are) resident in Malta at the time of birth. Therefore the definition excludes babies born to mothers who are resident abroad.
  • Location of Fishing Aggregation Devices (FADs)

Every year the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DFA) issues a call for applications (together with a set of conditions) for those vessels interested to lay Fishing Aggregation Devices (FADs). This data was included as part of the dataset used for one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.
  • Maerl and Granulometry MEDITS

Granulometry data were collected by box-corer during the Mediterranean Trawl Survey (MEDITS) between the years 2004-2008 (excluding 2006). This dataset were gathered from various stations (80 in total), and were classified as follows: coarse silt, medium silt and very coarse silt; and fine sand, medium sand and very fine sand. These data were gathered on DFA’s own initiative in order to gather baseline data about the substratum, which influences the distribution of the fishing resources within GSA 15. While maerl data was obtained from photos of the MEDITS stations sampled between 2005 and 2011 as well as Van veen Grab samples collected during the Mediterranean Trawl Survey (MEDITS) between the years 2004-2008 (excluding 2006). These data were gathered on DFA's own initiative in order to gather baseline data about the substratum, which influences the distribution of the fishing resources within the GSA 15.These data was included as part of the dataset used for one of the co-financed EU LIFE+ Funding Programmes - LIFE BaĦAR for N2K project.
  • MALTA Classification at Local Administrative Unit (LAU), Level 1

The local administrative units, abbreviated as LAUs, form a system for dividing up the economic territory of the European Union (EU) for the purpose of statistics at local level. They have been set up by Eurostat and they are compatible with NUTS. The LAU classification is equivalent to the classification of all Maltese localities into six districts by Malta Geographic Codes (MGC).At local level, two levels of LAU have been defined: The upper level (LAU1, formerly NUTS level 4)The lower level (LAU2, formerly NUTS level 5)
  • MALTA Classification at NUTS 3 Level

The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) was established by Eurostat to provide a single uniform breakdown of territorial units for the production of regional statistics for the European Union.
